DIIR publish His Holiness'
collected statements on environment

30 March, TibetNet: The Environment and Development Desk of the
Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR), Central
Tibetan Administration, has published a book His Holiness the XIV Dalai
Lama on Environment, which contains the collected statements and speeches
of His Holiness made on environmental issues from 1986 till 2006.
The environmental matters concern us all and this book provides
information on His Holiness the Dalai Lama's efforts on environmental
protection.
The book is the forth edition of its kinds. This edition also covers
comments made by His Holiness advising Tibetans to try to opt for a
vegetarian diet.
In his foreword, Kalon for the DIIR, Kalon Tempa Tsering said, Since
1959 His Holiness the Dalai Lama has worked tirelessly to resolve the
Tibet issue with Beijing through non-violence and has been recognised the
world over as one of the most revered and respected spiritual teachers, an
indefatigable champion of Tibetan freedom, and a committed spokesperson
for the environmental movement.
"His Holiness was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 in recognition
of his non-violent struggle to resolve the Tibet issue with China, his
teachings on peace, compassion and environmental conservation".
Kalon Tempa Tsering also said that this compilation of excerpts from
speeches and teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the importance of
environment protection is dedicated to all those who continuously work for
the ecological conservation of Mother Earth.
The head of Environmental and Development Desk, Tenzin Tsultrim said
the book is always in great demand. The contents are very simple and in
that regard I hope it would help and inspire many people.
The book contains 100 pages and it is available at the DIIR for free
distribution. Hindi version of the book is also available.
