Indian MPs reaffirm their
commitment to Tibetan cause
Dharamshala, 13 March, TibetNet: A
delegation from the All Party Indian Parliamentary Forum for Tibet (APIPFT),
who have come here to partake in the 48th Tibetan National Uprising Day,
held a press conference at the Department of Information and International
Relations Hall last Saturday.
The delegation consists of Indian parliamentarians from eight different
ruling parties.
In his brief address at the conference, Mr. Kiran Rijiju, MP of
Arunachal Pradesh, on behalf of the other members of the forum reaffirmed
his commitment to cooperate the Tibetan people's freedom struggle and to
support the Tibetan cause till its resolution.

Expounding his views on why India must support the movement and approach
of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he said, "Our support is not
anti-China because we support His Holiness' Middle-Way Approach which is
in the interest of both Tibet and China."
"Peaceful Tibet is in the interest of China, India, Asia and for
the world peace. Once Tibet's issue is solved India and China could be
very trusted friends", he added.
Before the press meeting, the speaker of the Tibetan
Parliament-in-Exile, Karma Chophel, briefed the reporter about the
delegation's audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama after the official
function of 10 March.
He said that the high-level meeting between His Holiness and the forum
members lasted an hour during which His Holiness thanked them and the
other members of Indian parliament who couldn't come yet are supportive of
the Tibetan cause.
Gyari Dolma, deputy speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, closed
the press conference with a short speech thanking the MPs for their
support and working jointly for the cause of Tibet.
The APIPFT was established in 1970 under the leadership of M. C. Chagla,
subsequently Mr. George Fernandes and Mahan Singh took over the forum. On
6 May 2002, 30 MPs in India met in New Delhi to reorganise the APIPFT.
