Dharamshala, 15 March, TibetNet: The
Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPIE) began its 3rd session yesterday
afternoon after the grand long-life prayer offering to His Holiness the
Dalai Lama.
In his opening address, Karma Chophel, speaker of the TPIE, gave an
account of what have happened to the issue of Tibet in the last six
months.
He expressed his concern over the deplorable human rights situation in
Tibet, including denunciation campaign against His Holiness the Dalai Lama
since last May and the Nangpa-La tragedy, all of which he said shows
Tibet's worsening situation.
He updated the deputies on the second All India Tibet Support Groups
Conference held at Bodh Gaya in Bihar on 13-15 October 2006, which he said
was very successful.
Highlighting the importance of support from India, he said His Holiness
the Dalai Lama has always considered the support from India to be of
utmost importance.

The speaker also gave an account of the visit of Kalmyk delegation,
including the President, chairman and MPs of the Parliament of Kalmyk
Republic, last December in Dharamshala.
He welcomed Kalon Kelsang Yangkyi Takla and the new Nyingma deputy Ven.
Sonam Tenphel as they made their first attendance at the parliament
session since their appointment.
Ven. Sonam Tenphel succeeded Ven. Tsering Phuntsok following his
nomination to the 13th Kashag.
During the 15-minute tea break, the speaker met with former Tibetan
political prisoners, Ngawang Sangdrol and Phuntso Nyidon who later visited
the parliament in session. They received a standing ovation at the session
as the speaker Karma Chophel introduced them.
Yesterday's session also saw the nomination of panel of chairmen--Ngawang
Lhamo, Penpa Tsering and Tsultrim Tenzin--who in the absence of speaker
and deputy speaker will preside over the session.
